Craig Chapling

I started Ignition Projects with the aim of providing an accessible way to add experienced project management capability to businesses of all sizes on a fractional basis, whether as short term support or long term guidance, but without the time and financial burden of additional recruitment.

My goal is to provide a simplified way of working that focuses on the key areas that drive your project and business forward. Project management does not have to be onerous or burdensome, and it should always, always, add value.

My Story

My background is based in Engineering. From playing with Meccano as a child, to spending long weekends with friends tearing cars apart in my back garden, I have a long held fascination with all things mechanical.

Growing up in the West Midlands, this somewhat inevitably lead me to a career in the automotive industry. Having gained a masters degree from Leeds University (1st class honours), with a year spent at Penn State University in the US working on hybrid vehicles, I went on to start my working life with Jaguar Land Rover. Here I held a number of roles, based around delivering into production either attributes (i.e. aspects of how the vehicle behaves), or systems made up of many sub-components.

As the automotive industry starting leaning towards electrification, I began to apply my skills to new mobility technologies, mostly batteries. Much of my learning in this space came from working in small, start up type environments, where my project delivery background began to shift towards programme governance, processes and procedures, the implementation of systems, and the building of teams.

Throughout this experience I have been lucky to work on a wide range of topics, with a number of different teams across multiple cultures, all with slightly different motivations to achieving the ultimate goal of project delivery. This broad experience across a range of projects and business types gives me a well rounded set of transferrable experiences to pull from, which can (and have) been applied to a range of projects, not just engineering based.
